2016-17 Structure

Dads Rock Academy – Year 4

Each year we aim to enhance your experience of Dads Rock Academy (DRA).  We’ve spent time looking at what has worked over the last three years and want needs change.  See below for details for this years lessons.

  • DRA will run on a Tuesday night, 6-8pm.
  • The first class will be on Tues 6th of Sept and run until 13th of June 2017.
  • There will be five distinct learning blocks throughout the year.
  • Our existing lead tutors are returning.
  • Weekly cost is £12* per student, to be paid monthly.
*For the last three years we've had additional funding to help reduce the fees, we no longer have access to this, and without this increase DRA cannot continue.

Instrument choices are also changing, we need every new and returning DRA student to click on the link below and chose your top three instruments that you wish to study.

We'll aim to fit everyone to their first choice, but this is about trying to get a more even spread of students against instruments:

Every family that wants to be part of DRA this year needs to click on the above survey by the 14th of August.  If you don’t respond by the 14th, we’ll assume you don’t want to be a student.  If there is more than one student per family, you'll need to complete multiple surveys.

If you’d like to meet to discuss any of this, we’re holding a meeting for families, you'll be asked in the above survey if you'd like to come to the meeting.

Thank You!

Frightened Rabbit at Dads Rock

Grant Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit first came along to see Dads Rock Academy in action last year.  We got in touch with him after reading that they supported the campaign by the newspaper 'Scotland on Sunday' to help ensure music lessons at school were free.

It's no surprise that we also support this cause, music is fundamental to how we communicate and come together in our communities to have shared experiences.  We believe it's undervalued in the UK and provides many valuable life skills to our young people.

We also believe in the relevance and power of young people coming together with their mums, dads, grandparents to learn an instrument together, to push and challenge each other to learn new skills.

We want to keep music as accessible to as many people as possible, it's one reason why we expanded from 26 students last year to over 60 this year.

Earlier on this year we did a shout out to look for more drum tutors for our students, to give more time in smaller groups, and Grant got in touch again.

For the past few weeks Grant has been working with one of our young drummers, giving invaluable 1:1 tuition...check out the pictures..
